Additional notes
Contributed an instrumental version of their song "Haunted" for the soundtrack to the 1996 first-person shooter game Descent II.
Had a tradition of producing their own albums.
Every album since October Rust is labeled as a "product of Vinnland" on the back cover. Vinnland is a fictional country, which, according to Peter Steele, is the US and Canada merged into a single nation. The concept of Vinnland was explained on the band's website.
Made an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in 1996, performing their cover of Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl". Due to the briefness of their appearance on the show, the song's duration was significantly shortened to a mere 30 seconds.
Known for having a dark, cynical sense of humor. In 2005, the band played a cruel joke on their fans by stating that Peter Steele had passed away (on their official website, a picture reads "Eter Steele... Free at Last... 1962-2005). The picture read "Eter" because a leaf was covering the "P" supposedly. The irony of this prank is that it was posted on Friday the 13th of May 2005. Steele eventually passed away on April 14th, 2010 from Meckel's diverticulum.
* The band's current name was chosen in part because all four original members had already tattooed a "Sub-zero" logo on their arm, which is an O with a negative symbol inside it.
* The album Life Is Killing Me was originally titled The Dream Is Dead after the name of the closing song. This led some fans to believe that the band was retiring or breaking up, which proved untrue.
* An early working title for Bloody Kisses was Things Worse Than Death (And Other Acts of God).
* Working titles for the album World Coming Down included Prophets of Doom and Aggroculture.
* The song "The Profits of Doom" from Dead Again is often incorrectly spelled as "Profit of Doom" in various third-party outlets. This can most likely be attributed to Peter Steele's singular pronunciation of "profit" in the chorus, even though the official tracklisting has the word written in the plural.
In a November 2010 interview with Rock Hard magazine, Johnny Kelly and Kenny Hickey confirmed that following Peter Steele's death, the band was no more.
John Watson was a guitar tech for both Type O Negative and Carnivore.
