Sal Abruscato was in the video for "Black No. 1" before leaving the band following the album's release. In the video for "Christian Woman" it was not known who the person playing drums was until a March 2023 Instagram post in which Johnny Kelly confirmed that he was the person playing drums in the video.

Members of Life of Agony contributed some writing and additional vocals to the album.

The album peaked at #166 on the Billboard 200.

It was the first Roadrunner Records album to ever reach gold status (500,000 copies sold), and second to reach platinum (1,000,000 copies).

"Summer Breeze" was originally recorded as a cover song with different lyrics and title called "Summer Girl", but Seals & Crofts (the band behind the original song) found the new lyrics too distasteful, so the band had to stick with the original lyrics. This version can be found on the internet.

The lyrics for "Bloody Kisses (A Death in the Family)" originated from the death of one of Peter Steele's cats.
