전작 Images And Words 의 화려한 스포트라이트로 인해 지닌 완성도에 비해 비교적 덜 알려진 Dream Theater의 Awake 앨범으로, 좀 더 어둡고 헤비한 사운드를 담고 있다. Images And Words와 동일 라인업인 만큼 막상막하의 무시무시한 완성도를 지니고 있으며 '독립된 개체들의 유기적인 조화'의 면에서는 그 어떤 앨범도 Awake 앨범을 따를 수 없다. 본작에서 가장 주목할만한 부분은 Kevin Moore의 키보드 사운드인데, 뛰어난 센스의 감각적인 플레이로 자칫하면 기계적으로 흐를 수 있는 Dream Theater의 음악을 중화시키며 컬트적인 이미지즘을 부여한다. 우주적인 스케일의 Space-Dye Vest, 강력한 전개로 큰 임펙트를 가하는 The Mirror, 그리고 앨범의 하이라이트인 Erotomania와 Voices, The Silent Man으로 이어지는 곡들에서 Dream Theater의 끝을 알 수 없는 역량을 느낄 수 있을 것이다. Awake 앨범 발표 후 아쉽게도 Kevin Moore가 음악적 견해차이로 밴드를 떠나게 된다. 최고의 심미적 쾌락을 안겨주는 걸작.

청자 입장에선 의견이 갈릴 앨범이지만 드림 씨어터 본인들에게는 가장 자유분방하고 만족스러운 앨범으로 다가올 앨범. 근데 분명 최고로 치는 앨범은 아닌데 이상하게 제일 자주 찾게 된다. 케빈의 키보드가 압권.
