The 3rd And The Mortal 은 지극히 공허한 Gothic Metal 세계를 들려주는 노르웨이 출신의 밴드이다. EP 앨범 Sorrow 이후에 발표한 정규 데뷔작 Tears Laid In Earth 으로, The 3rd And The Mortal 의 음악적 모토가 Doom Metal인 만큼, 느린 템포의 허무한 사운드로 일관하고 있다. 복잡하지 않은 구성임에도 훌륭한 파트별 조율과 폭넓은 공간감의 곡진행으로 다채로운 느낌을 안겨주며, 반복해서 들을수록 그 깊이를 더하는 예술적인 카타르시스를 전해준다. Kari Rueslatten의 여성보컬을 원 톱으로 내세우고 있는데, 당시로선 매우 획기적인 시도였다고 볼 수 있으며 그럼에도 결코 가볍지 않은 음악성을 표출해내었다는 점에서 높은 평가를 내릴 수 있겠다.
