Jon Oliva가 곡작업과 키보드에 게스트로 참여하며 공식탈퇴를 선언하고 폭발적인 깊은 성량의 소유자 Zachary Stevens를 새로운 프론트맨으로 맞이하여 발표한 Savatage의 통산 8집 Edge Of Thorns 이다. 역시 곡은 Jon, Criss Oliva 형제와 멤버나 다름없는 프로듀서 Paul O' Neill이 썼으며 음악의 노선은 전작과 같다. 하지만, 뚜렷한 굴곡의 드라마틱한 악곡을 지녔던 전작에 비해 다소 심플한 싱글취향의 곡들이 많이 보이며, 더불어 곡들의 러닝타임도 간결해졌다. 평단의 찬사와 함께 최고 전성기를 이어갔으나, 당해 10월 기타리스트 Criss Oliva가 교통사고로 운명하는 비극이 일어나고 말았다.
