Florida Death Metal의 창시자격인 Death의 여덟 번째 정규작이자 마지막 스튜디오 작품인 The Sound Of Perseverance 앨범으로 Nuclear Blast로 이적하여 공개되었다. Judas Priest의 Painkiller를 멋지게 커버하여 유명한 앨범이기도 한데, 짜임새있는 멜로디, 적절한 이완을 반복하는 악곡과 날카롭게 뽑아낸 음의 입자등 최후의 앨범이라는 오명에 걸맞는 내용물을 지니고 있다. Chuck Schuldiner은 지난 1996년 조직하였던 프로젝트밴드 Control Denied를 통해 그간 시도해오던 Prigressive의 지향점을 보여준 The Fragile Art of Existence를 1999년에 발표하지만, 뇌에 종양이 발견됨으로써 모든 활동을 접게 된다.
