Cradle Of Filth의 네 번째 앨범인 본작 Cruelty And The Beast에 대한 평가는 최고에서부터 평작으로 갈기 찢겨져 있지만 개인적으로는 이보다 더 아름다운 음반은 없다고 할 정도의 절대적인 명반대열에 올려놓고 싶다. 처녀들의 피로 목욕을 즐겼다고 전해지는 Elizabeth Bathory를 컨셉으로 한 앨범으로 잔혹하고 퇴폐적인 흡혈귀 이미지에 부합되는 처절하고 아름다운 음악을 들려준다. 전체적으로 전작 Dusk And Her Embrace의 연장선상에 있다고 할 수 있으며 보다 치밀하고 드라마틱한 구성과 구슬픈 멜로디를 지니고 있다. 중세의 음산한 미학을 이토록 색채적으로 구현한 음반도 드물 것이다. 저음 그로울링과 초고음 샤우팅을 소름끼치게 구사해내는 Dani Filth의 소름끼치는 보컬을 들을 수 있다. 최고조에 오른 Cradle Of Filth의 역량이 총집결된 Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids , 컨셉의 하이라이트에 해당하는 Bathory Aria등 전곡을 강력하게 추천한다. 잔혹한 아름다움의 극치를 담아 낸 최고의 멜로딕 블랙메틀 음반.
