Black Metal 뿐만 아니라 당시엔 뚜렷한 골격을 형성하지 못했던 Thrash Metal, Death Metal 등 모든 익스트림 메틀의 원형을 제시했다고 평가되는 바이블적인 존재가 Venom의 Black Metal 앨범이다. Black Sabbath에 의해 락계에 섬뜩한 그림자를 드리운 '악마주의'에 훨씬 노골적으로 다가서고 있는데, 트리오로서 Cronos의 지옥에서부터 끓어오르는 듯한 울부짓음, Mantas의 직선적이며 주술적으로 읇조리는 듯한 기타사운드, Abaddon의 난폭한 드러밍을 들을 수 있다. 20여년에 지난 지금 들어도 촌스러움은 그다지 느껴지지 않는다. 이성을 잠식해가는 광기어린 카리스마만이 뇌리에서 맴돌 뿐.
