Dream Theater의 앨범 중 가장 이질적인 작품으로 입체적이고 역동적이었던 전작들에 비해 건조하고 정적인 느낌이 드는 Falling Into Infinity 이다. 드라마틱하고 테크니컬한 면은 많이 감소하였으며 다소 심플하고 멜로디컬한 전개가 주를 이루고 있다. 기존의 이미지에서 많은 변화를 시도하였지만 역시나 청자의 상상력을 무한대로 끌어올리는 마력은 여전하다. 이채로운 사운드를 담고 있는 Lines In The Sand, 세 개의 파트로 나뉘어진 대작 Trial Of Tears등을 수록하고 있다.
