Nightwish는 1996년 키보디스트 Tuomas Holopainen에 의해 핀란드 헬싱키에서 결성되었다. 두 번째 앨범 Oceanborn이 국내에서 널리 알려지면서 재조명된 데뷔작 Angels Fall First 으로, Female 보컬리스트의 상징이라 할 수 있는 Tarja Turunen의 드라마틱한 보이스와 Tuomas Holopainen, Emppu Vuorinen의 송라이팅이 환상적으로 어울려져 멋진 Operatic Metal이 완성되었다. 이후에 나온 앨범들에 비하면 느린템포의 정적인 곡들이 많이 보인다. Nymphomaniac Fantasia, Elvenpath등 전곡에서 전율을 느껴보라. 데뷔작이지만, 사운드는 '숙성' 그 자체이다.
