Operation : Mindcrime 앨범으로 시애틀의 반경을 벗어난 미국을 대표하는 지성적 메틀밴드로 거듭난 Queensryche 이다. 전작의 서사적인 씨어터 메틀과는 다르게 본작 Empire은 비교적 멜로딕한 정적인 곡들이 많이 보이는데, 사회파편의 단상들을 수평적으로 나열해 놓은 느낌이다. 대중적으로는 크게 히트한 작품이지만 미학적인 프로그레시브와는 다소 거리가 있다. 94년 Promised Land, 97년 Hear In The Now Frontier으로 앨범을 발표할수록 노골적인 얼터성향의 사운드를 보임으로써 점점 많은 팬들로부터 외면당하게 되며, 99년 주작곡자인 Chris DeGarmo가 밴드를 떠나게 된다. 이후에 Chris가 재가입하는 등 현재에도 왕성하게 활동중이다.
