스웨데시 정통파 메틀러 Hammerfall은 93년 Ceremonial Oath의 기타리스트 Oscar Dronjak과 In Flames의 Jesper Stromblad를 주축으로 결성되어 초창기엔 프로젝트의 성향이 강했으나 앨범을 거듭해 갈수록 라인업이 점차 안정되어 완전한 밴드로서 안정적인 궤도에 안착하게 되었다. 세 번째 앨범인 본작 Renegade에서는 Yngwie Malmsteen의 Rising Force 출신의 명드러머 Anders Johansson을 영입하여 완성하였으며 Accept, Skid Row, Ozzy Osbourne등의 앨범을 제작한 바 있는 명프로듀서 Michael Wagener가 지휘봉을 맡았다. 군더더기 없는 깔끔한 트윈 기타사운드는 일품이라 할만한데, 하모닉 연주보다는 장중한 리프메이킹으로 정통메틀에 대한 신념을 보여준다.
