Satyricon은 유일하게 Emperor과 어깨를 견줄 수 있는 대그룹으로 보컬, 키보드, 베이스, 기타와 곡작업등을 담당하는 Satyr와 드러머 Frost가 중심이 되어 1992년 노르웨이에서 결성되었다. 데모 Satyricon와 The Forest In My Throne, 94년 데뷔작 Dark Medieval Times이후에 발표한 이들이 두 번째 정규작 The Shadowthrone으로, 미디엄템포의 곡들이 주를 이루고 있으며 비교적 통일성있는 사운드를 선보인다. 적절한 현악기, 샘플링등이 섞여 Satyricon만의 독특한 음악을 들려준다.
