While Wages of Sin was released in the Japanese and South Korean markets in 2001, the album had considerable problems finding its way to the American and European markets, remaining domestically unavailable in those continents until nearly a full year after its Pacific Rim debut.

Johan Lilva의 탈퇴선언 이후 그 뒤를 잇는 보컬리스트가 여성이라는 충격적인 보도가 있은 후 많은 관심하에 발표된 앨범이다. Angela Gossow의 여성이라고는 상상하기 힘들 정도의 사악한 그로울링이 앨범전체를 종횡무진 누비고 있으며 전작에 비해 꽉찬 듯한 연주를 구사하고 있으나 반면에, 멜로디는 다소 위축된 감이 있다. 결과적으로 Arch Enemy의 위치를 최정상으로 끌어올린 화제작이지만 개인적으로는 전작보다 못하다고 생각된다. Wages Of Sin 앨범은 Burrn!지 독자투표 2001년 최고의 앨범으로 지목되기도 하였다.
