Additional notes
Meshuggah's name is taken from the Hebrew and Yiddish word for "crazy".
Metallien is NOT a pre-Meshuggah band. It was a different entity altogether.
The band was originally formed in 1987 by Jens Kidman, Fredrik Thordendal, Jörgen Lindmark, Per Sjögren, and Johan Sjögren. In the same year, Jens Kidman decided to leave Meshuggah to form Calipash. Thordendal later joined Calipash as well but continued Meshuggah for some time after Kidman's departure. In 1988, Thordendal ultimately decided to dissolve Meshuggah and focus exclusively on Calipash. After releasing a demo in 1988, Kidman and Thordendal opted to use the Meshuggah name again and thus ended Calipash.
After the release of Chaosphere, Meshuggah developed an 8-string guitar with the Sweden-based Nevborn company, which includes two bass guitar strings and a longer neck. Nothing was recorded in its entirety with its prototype.
Their song "Soul Burn" was featured on the TV show The Osbournes, when Ozzy Osbourne's son Jack Osbourne blasts it at full volume to annoy their neighbors. Meshuggah was later invited to play The Ozzfest in 2002.
