After the release of "Chaosphere", Meshuggah developed an 8-string guitar with the Sweden-based Nevborn company, which includes two bass guitar strings and a longer neck. "Nothing" was recorded in its entirety with its prototype, although it was written on 7-string Ibanez guitars tuned down to match the 8-string.
