Additional notes
The band was called The Dwellers at the Gates of Silent Memory (named after a Fields of the Nephilim song) for about a week before the members decided to shorten it.
At the Gates, along with Dark Tranquillity and In Flames, pioneered what is now known as melodic death metal, or the Gothenburg sound (since all of them came from that city).
Upon reforming in 2007 with the Slaughter of the Soul line-up (the Björler brothers, Lindberg, Larsson, and Erlandsson), At the Gates initially announced that they would not record a new album. However, due to the fans' positive response to their reunion live shows, they announced in January 2014 that they had begun work on their fifth album At War with Reality for a late 2014 release, reversing their earlier decision not to put out any new material under the At the Gates name.
According to a 2019 interview with Adrian Erlandsson, original member/guitarist Anders Björler left the band in 2017, because he grew tired of the band's large-scale touring commitments, as he does not enjoy traveling and playing live, to begin with. Additionally, he was not interested in playing metal anymore. However, Anders has been rejoined the band since 2022.
