본작 Practice What You Preach는 1987년의 데뷔작 The Legacy와 라이브앨범 Live At Eindhoven, 88년의 The New Order에 이은 Testament의 세 번째 정규 스튜디오 앨범으로, 그간 멤버들의 라인업이 한번도 변경되지 않은 만큼 철저한 팀웍을 과시한다. 프로듀서 Alex Perialas와 함께한 Testament의 초기 3장의 앨범은 정통파 스래쉬의 시기로 분류되곤 하는데, 그 중에서는 본작이 약간 낮게 평가를 받는 것이 일반적이다. Chuck Billy의 저돌적인 파워보이스, Eric Peterson 특유의 리프진행, Alex Skolnick의 멜로디컬한 솔로잉, Greg Christian의 풍부한 베이스라인, Louie Clemente의 박진감 넘치는 드러밍등이 구현해내는 헤비사운드는 강한 매력을 발산한다.
