According to Tuomas Holopainen, the DVD title "came from a friend of Troy" who defined Nightwish "a vehicle of spirit that defies category" after seeing a band's concert in 2014.
The "Live at Wembley" DVD "is mentioned first due to" the venue's "recognisability and legendary status"; it was recorded on December 9, 2015 and features a Richard Dawkins live speech before "Weak Fantasy" (track 8, CD1) and his appearance on stage at the end of the video. The "Live at Tampere" DVD was filmed on July 31, 2015 and chosen by Nightwish because Tampere is a "home crowd" for the band and it had "the biggest stage production" ever for them.
In Nightwish's support tour for Endless Forms Most Beautiful, the 20-minutes-long closing track "The Greatest Show on Earth" (track 17, CD1; track 17, CD2) was performed only in its first three parts: "Four Point Six", "Life" and "The Toolmaker".
"The Endless Forms Most Beautiful Tour 2015-2016" is an easter egg hidden in the menu of both Blu-Ray and DVD.
