Additional notes
Recorded in 1982 at Pagan Studios, London, United Kingdom.
Remastered in 1998 at Hiltongrove, London, United Kingdom.
Recorded in 1982, Volume I was originally just a self-titled, albeit theme-based (unusual for a demo), demo centering around magic, witchcraft & the occult (which wasn't so unusual). It failed to be released & sat on a shelf until rediscovered around late 1997. Remastered tracks & an upgrade to compact disc wiped away enough superficial age for it to see release in early 1998 on the band's own Oracle Records.
Track 6, the acoustic instrumental known here as "Acoustics", was originally untitled, but for reasons quite unknown, unclear & definitely strange, it acquired this name at the pressing plant manufacturing its cds, then somehow found itself included in the cd's inlay tracklist, pretty much setting it in stone. Regardless, the band later dubbed it "The Dance of the Banshee".
For the US-made bootlegs, two separate versions exist distinguishable by sleeve color; both are cheaply done overall with inferior sound quality. Some sources claim the first was encountered in the late '80s, while others cite 1995. Agreed upon is its plain white sleeve & the its limited press run, ultimately of 100 copies. A black-sleeved second pressing of 500 copies started being seen shortly after 1995.
