1985년에 결성되어 Lucifers Heritage란 밴드명으로 활동하다 Blind Guardian으로 개명하고 1988년 데뷔작 Battalions Of Fear을 발표하였다. 본작은 3년 반만에 내놓은 Blind Guardian 통산 아홉 번째 정규앨범 A Night At The Opera 로 그리스 앨범차트 정상에 오르는등 유럽내에서 상당한 반향을 일으킨 걸작이다. 음악의 방향성은 전작과 동일선상에 있으며 Hansi Kursch의 넘치는 파워보이스와 Andre Olbrich, Marcus Siepen의 독특한 기타 사운드는 Blind Guardian의 음악에서만 들을 수 있는 것으로 오리지널리티의 차원에서 높은 평가를 부여받고 있다. 강조된 코러스라인과 이국적인 멜로디와 리듬, 프로그레시브적인 전개로 이들만의 독보적인 사운드를 펼친다.
