Additional notes
The band started as a heavy/power/speed metal band playing cover songs until Kam Lee and Allen West joined, at which point they converted their style to death metal. Kam Lee is considered an influential innovator in extreme vocals. Many credit him as inventing the characteristic "death growl", which is first heard on Massacre's 1986 Aggressive Tyrant demo.
In early 2000, at least two projects were announced by Kam. The first band was Cadaverizer, where he played together with a couple of members from Funebrarum. Cadaverizer split up before recording anything. The second project was called Kauldron. Kam Lee was the only known member. They only recorded a cover of Destruction's "Bestial Invasion" for the Dwell Records compilation Armageddon: The Tribute to Destruction.
Massacre reunited for the "The-Re-Animated" tour in 2006, but split up and reformed multiple times between this period and late 2008. In early 2009, Kam Lee stated he would attempt to resurrect Massacre again and release an album in 2010, but once again claimed to shelve the band in May 2009 via a message on the band's Myspace page.
Kam Lee performed the entire From Beyond album at the A Day of Death Festival in Williamsville, New York, on July 16th, 2011.
Kam Lee and Rick Rozz attempted to reform the band in 2016 as Massacre X, in reference to it being the band's 10th line-up. Original drummer Bill Andrews threatened to sue the band over the use of the name, leading to them rebranding themselves as Gods of Death, in reference to their significance in the development of death metal. They were active under that name till July 2019, when the court officially decided that Kam Lee is the legal rights holder.
